24 hours Locksmithing & Security

I will be offering my Five (5) days hands-on Basic Locksmith Training as follows:

June 6-10, 2011 (M-F, 9am-5pm) Vancouver, BC

At our own Mr. Locksmith College provides hands-on comprehensive knowledge about locking and unlocking principles, security issues, and effective use of cutting-edge products. Each student will cut over 100+ keys per students (by code and manual key machines) and rekey, shim, pick open, take apart (and put back together) lots of locks (deadbolts and key in knobs). Also, lock-outs, broken keys and picking locks.

Each student will design a mini Master key system and master key their locks. This is a hands on locksmith training class, no watching movies, you will learn hands on, you do the work. This is not a correspondence course. You will learn to pick locks the starting the first day. The first hour you will cut a key on a computerized key code machine and before noon you will be rekeying locks and cutting keys.

The Locksmithing Class is $1500.00 and includes all supplies, lock picks, tools and material needed to take the course with. The locksmith class is designed to teach engineering or maintenance employees for large facilities (School, Hospital, Corrections, Policing, etc.) and is a good start for beginners. The Five Day Institutional Locksmithing Class is available onsite with a minimum of four (4) students. Call or e-mail to arrange a class or for next course dates.

Note: All students must pass a criminal records check. (except Police, Hospital or School employees). Call or e-mail for details.

I recommend completing the Security Worker Application “Locksmith under Supervision” online as follows:

On-line application:

http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/securityindustry/eservice/index.htm

Print and complete the fingerprint form and take it to your local police for fingerprinting. Call them to check what hours they are available for fingerprinting.

At Mr. Locksmith Automotive Locksmiths we get several calls a day from people who have lost the keys to their steering wheel car theft prevention device.

Living in the Car Theft Capital of Canada the car owners in the Greater Vancouver area have to use car theft prevention devices like the The Club to lock the steering wheel to prevent their cars from being stolen. In 2009, British Columbia had the highest car theft frequency in Canada. Approximately 11 vehicles per 1,000 or 2-4 times the auto theft of other provinces and regions. British Columbia is the auto theft capital of the Western World.

I have read on the internet and have seen the results of people trying to remove Clubs or Steering wheel locks. Several website recommend forcing the lock with a screwdriver or to freeze the lock with Freon. Both of these methods do not work and usually result in damaging the steering wheel, front windshield or causing the airbag to deploy at the cost of hundreds of dollars (one customer had the front and side air bags deploy at the cost of over $3000). Another customers’ fingers were frost bitten not to mention how expensive and environmentally unfriendly using Freon to freeze the lock. I have never seen the results of using Freon work on any lock.

Bottom line: Screwdrivers and Freon does not work. Clubs and Steering wheel locks have been designed to beat the average or above average car thieves from removing them.

At Mr. Locksmith all of our locksmiths have been trained to safely, and with no damage to the car, remove a locked Club or Steering wheel lock. Most of the time we can pick the lock with our lock picks quickly and efficiently.

Despite the risk of you losing your key to your steering wheel lock they are still a great deterrent to prevent the theft of your car. Even if your car has an alarm system, immobilizer or the car is equipped with transponder or chip key security system I highly recommend a club or steering wheel lock on your car. And if you do loose your Club key, Mr. Locksmith will remove the steering wheel lock with no damage to your car or steering wheel.

If you have BCAA auto insurance, Canadian Automobile Assocaition (CAA), American Automoblie Assocation (AAA) or other emergency auto/RV/motorcyle/bike roadside service, and if your keys are locked inside the car or trunk, or your keys are lost or broken, they will cover emergency locksmith service up to $100. We will provide you with a receipt so you can submit it to your auto insurance provider for reimbursement.

www.mrlocksmith.com Warns Consumers of Locksmith Scammers

VANCOUVER, BC- Terry Whin-Yates and Mr. Locksmith is warning Consumers in the Vancouver area are warned to beware of individuals posing as locksmiths who perform unnecessary work or charge exorbitant un-locking fees. The Associated Locksmiths of America, Inc. (ALOA), an international association of locksmith and physical security professionals, recently issued an official warning for many cities in North America area.

“These companies manipulate listings and quote $15 prices and 15 minute response time. The victims frequently are calling out-of-province or Canada operations that are not locksmith companies at all. The consumer is quoted a reasonable price over the phone, but when a person posing as a locksmith finishes the job, the victim is charged a considerable amount more for unnecessary and sub-standard work”.

Mr. Locksmith and Terry Whin-Yates suggest “Make sure you do a little investigative work first”. “If you’re not comfortable with who’s coming to help you, the chances are you may be dealing with a scammer.”

ASK: When contacting a locksmith, if the legal business name isn’t stated, ask for it. If there’s hesitation, there’s cause for concern. Hang up and move on.

VERIFY: Written estimates should be supplied before work begins, along with an itemized invoice upon completion.

CONFIRM: In British Columbia all Locksmith companies must have a valid “Locksmith Business License” and the Locksmith must have a valid “BC Locksmith License” with photo identification.

Protect yourself, you can “Verify Locksmith Security Business licence” at the following BC Government site:

http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/securityindustry/training/index.htm
